Facts regarding the Newfoundland and Labrador Veterinary Medical Association (NALVMA)

1. NALVMA members are licensed professionals in the field of veterinary medicine. Only veterinarians that meet the legal standards of the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Veterinarians, under the Veterinary Medical Act, may be granted a licence to practice veterinary medicine in the province.

2. NALVMA is the smallest provincial veterinary medical association in Canada.

3. NALVMA consists of private small animal and mixed small and large animal practitioners, provincial large animal veterinarians and federal regulatory veterinarians.

4. NALVMA, like each provincial association in Canada, has one seat and one vote in the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) to shape national policy for Canada’s 9000 veterinarians.

5. NALVMA was established in 1971.

6. The CVMA will hold it 2006 national convention in St. John’s with NALVMA as its hosting body.
